A student volunteer program at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH) is giving local youth a front-row look at careers in health care, as Interior Health marks National Volunteer Week.

The program, delivered in partnership with the Trail Hospital Auxiliary Society and J.L. Crowe Secondary School, connects Grade 11 and 12 students with hospital departments, offering hands-on exposure to the day-to-day work behind patient care.

“We were very excited to have the Trail Auxiliary and JL Crowe approach KBRH to restart the Student Volunteer Program that had existed prior to 2020,” said Andrea Dutchak, director of clinical operations at KBRH. “It is a great way to have youth in our community become aware of the different roles in health care that work together every day to provide a high quality and safe patient experience.
