Nicola Valley Healthcare Auxiliary

President/ Joanne Easdown

Our Auxiliary is a group of dedicated volunteers committed to supporting health care needs within the community. Our Thrift Shop is our main fundraiser, the Shop provides a service to the community – receiving donations and providing low-cost purchasing options.

This past year has been a challenging one in Merritt, especially with the extreme flooding in Merritt. At this time, the Auxiliary focused on the comfort and welfare of our community and donated to the groups that were providing support. We were happy to be able to donate $10,000 each to the Merritt Rotary, the Red Cross, and Samaritan’s Purse.

Many of the people in our area must travel to Kamloops Royal Inland Hospital for Medical care. We have donated $100,000 to the new Surgical Tower as we know this donation will benefit many we serve.

Nicola Valley family Therapy advised us that there is a hole in the Mental Health program that serves Merritt and Surrounding area in that there is no counselling available for the men in our community. With a solid plan in place, we donated $20,000 to this organization to help get the program up and running.

We have assisted in many smaller donations including an AED for the Nicola Valley Search and Rescue team, providing furniture and painting of the palliative care rooms at Gillis House and Four scholarships to some very deserving students.
