President’s New Years Message

President’s Message January 2022

What will 2022 bring?  The question that no one can answer.

Looking back on 2021, it started out with a high – we were all going to be vaccinated and therefore protected from Covid, we were all going to be able to have more freedom, visits with friends and families that we had not seen for a while, maybe go on that long-awaited holiday then something called Omicron came along.

One of the buzz words in 2021 was “pivot”.  We have all had to pivot but pivot we did.  Our members have found new ways to keep up and keep their organizations running, our members have found new ways of raising money, our members have learned new skills to adapt to a virtual world.

As I write this message, there are encouraging signs in parts of the world that Omicron cases are going down as quickly as they descended on us, we can only hope in the next couple of weeks, British Columbia experiences the same downward trend.

Our 2022 Conference Committee is forging on with their plans for our Annual Provincial Conference in April.  The Covid situation will be watched and reviewed carefully in the coming weeks. We are asking our members to be optimistic that the Provincial Health Officer will deem that large gatherings will be able to be held in April, one thing we have all learned throughout the last year is the importance of in person social contact.

If we are allowed to hold our conference, we have a party planned as well as a great opening speaker, a surprise closing speaker and informative all delegate sessions.   BCAHA is subsidizing this year’s event to a much higher degree than in past years as we know all our revenues are down.  We are also offering a no risk cancellation policy up to Feb 15th, we will not cash your registration cheque and if we have to cancel because of Covid restrictions, your cheque will be returned to you.

Happy New Year – hope to see as many of you in person this year

Sincerely

Diane
