Langley Memorial Hospital Auxiliary

Langley gives out four scholarships. One for a high school student pursuing studies in the medical field, one for a volunteen, one for a current nursing staff who has contributed to nursing and who is furthering their education in nursing, and the other is for hospital staff who are going into other health care professions or who are updating their credentials.

Scholarship – Abbotsford Auxiliary Bursary Convenor and Auxiliary President present a Bursary cheque to the lucky University student who is pursuing a medical career.

Prince George – Auxiliary to University Hospital of Northern British Columbia (UHNBC)

Prince George gives scholarships and bursaries to students pursuing a career in any healthcare field.

~ We at Hope present a bursary to a Hope Senior Secondary applicant who is going into health field studies.

Williams Lake – Cariboo Memorial Hospital Auxiliary

~ Williams Lake gives two High school graduate scholarships for study in some medical field

Mackenzie & District Hospital Auxiliary

~ MacKenzie gives two awards to students pursing any medical field education

Revelstoke Hospital Auxiliary Society

~ Revelstoke gives two bursaries to any high school student entering into the Health Care Field.

Nakusp—Arrow Lakes Health Care Auxiliary

~ In Nakusp the auxiliary gives out a potential of six bursaries to high school students going into the medical field and six to mature students going into the medical field.
~ The amount increased this year to allow for the increasing cost of education.
The amount given to qualifying applicants varies.

Castlegar & District Hospital Auxiliary Society

~ Last year the auxiliary gave out one scholarship to a graduating student entering into higher education in the medical field from Stanley Humphries Secondary School.
~ A scholarship is also given out to a student at Selkirk College studying in the medical field.

Salmo and District Healthcare Auxiliary Society

~ Salmo makes two bursaries available per year – one to a graduating student from Salmo Secondary School and one to a mature student returning to school. Both applicants must demonstrate that they are entering into a medical or human health program.

Rossland Healthcare Auxiliary

~ Rossland auxiliary gives out three bursaries to two nursing students and one in a medical field at Selkirk College on an annual basis.

Terrace—Mills Memorial Hospital Auxiliary

~ Bursaries were started many years ago and now they offer up to ten bursaries a year. They are offered to students registered in any aspect of the medical field. Most students attend UNBC.

Grand Forks Auxiliary to the Boundary Hospital

~ Grand Forks gives out five scholarships each year.
~ In 2020, two were given out to Boundary Central School in Midway to students entering the medical field and three were given out to students at the Grand Forks Secondary School who were entering the medical field.

Vanderhoof—St John Auxiliary Society

~ St. John Auxiliary Society awards a bursary to a student pursuing further education in the human health sciences field. Our Youth Volunteer Program participants are given preference.

Burns Lake & District Healthcare Auxiliary

~ Their Bursary is available to students graduating from the local secondary school and consists of two payments.
~ Extra consideration is given to students who are going into medical fields (including Human Health Sciences and/or Mental Health and Addiction), plus we hope they have done some volunteer work in a medical field.

Smithers—Bulkley Valley District Hospital Auxiliary

~ Smithers has updated their bursaries to give out six New to You Thrift store bursaries to anyone continuing post secondary education in any field. There are three high schools in Smithers so each high school gets two awards. Smithers also gives one bursary for a student continuing in a medical field over 2 years and one to a Junior Volunteer going on in a medical field after 50 hours volunteering.

Chilliwack Auxiliary

~Chilliwack Auxiliary gives out bursaries to students in three schools…Chilliwack Senior Secondary, Sardis Senior Secondary and GW Graham. These go to 4 students in each school who are entering a medical field. They do not pick out the recipients…that is left to the school board.

Kaslo—Victorian Hospital of Kaslo Auxiliary Society

~ Two bursaries or scholarships are given out to students going into the medical field or upgrading their studies in the medical field each year.

Invermere Health Care Auxiliary Society

This is Tannica Tallis from the Ktunnaxa Nation. She did her final practicum in Haida Gwaii this winter and became a registered nurse in April 2021

~ The Invermere Health Care Auxiliary Society supports annual IHCAS bursaries to David Thompson Secondary School. Historically they provide five bursaries but this year they will be providing only one bursary as a result of store closures due to Covid.
~ Criteria include: having a family member as an auxiliary member; being a graduate of DTSS and providing volunteer hours.
~ A Bursary for students enrolled in Health Care Assistant Program in the College of the Rockies.
~ A Post Secondary scholarship for Health Care profession students in their second year.

Powell River Auxiliary

~ Powell river gives ten bursaries every year!

Gabriola Auxiliary

~ Since 2015 Gabriola has awarded one scholarship per year to a deserving student who lives on Gabriola and who is going on to further education in a health care field. Their scholarship is administered through the Nanaimo-Ladysmith School District Foundation.

Coquitlam—Eagle Ridge Auxiliary

~Eagle Ridge Auxiliary grants one Student Bursary annually to an eligible graduating Tri-Cities Student planning to pursue their post secondary school education in the field of health care.

Ashcroft District and Healthcare Auxiliary

~ Bursaries are given to students who have graduated from a secondary school in their school district. The bursaries are given when the students applying have completed the first semester of a wide range of courses in the medical field.

~ Golden awards one bursary to a deserving student from the area.

Salt Spring Island—Lady Minto Hospital Auxiliary

Lady Minto Hospital Auxiliary on Salt Spring offers awards in 4 different categories of scholarships and bursaries for people entering health-care programs. (9-14 people awarded in normal years.)
1. 2 LMHAS Youth Volunteer Bursaries
2. 2 LMHAS Scholarships
~Offered to qualified graduating students at Gulf Islands Secondary School (GISS) who are entering health-care studies. These awards have been offered for about 35 years, and they have helped many become nurses, doctors, pharmacists, care-aides, nutritionists, therapists.
3. 2 Continuing Education Scholarships
~ Offered to recent GISS graduates who are continuing in 2nd or 3rd year health-care studies, often in Nursing programs.
4. 3 Back to School Bursaries
~ The newest of our awards, for mature Gulf Island residents who are entering or continuing health-care programs, earning certificates or degrees in anything from advanced nursing to lab technicians, counselling psychology, medical device rehabilitation.

Summerland Health-Care Auxiliary

The Summerland Health Care Auxiliary gives out five bursaries to students graduating from Summerland Secondary School pursuing a career in health care.

Oliver—South Okanagan Health Care Auxiliary

~ They generally give out three bursaries to High school Graduates, two to the local Secondary School in Oliver and one to the high school in Osoyoos. Additionally they have a “mature” student bursary , for an individual who is working in a local Health Care facility and needs funding for their courses. All applicants for any Bursary must apply and provide evidence of registration in the chosen field of study (in Health Care Field)

Kamloops—Evening Auxiliary to Royal Inland Hospital

~ The Evening Auxiliary to RIH Kamloops awards five bursaries annually to TRU students going into the health care field – nursing, social work, Resp. Tech etc. They have been presenting these awards for over 33 years and have been inducted into the Presidents Circle of TRU recognising our contribution. They also present a financial award to a recipient of the Out of The Ashes program – this is for a person who has successfully recovered from addiction issues and turned their life around.

Princeton Hospital Auxiliary

~ They have been around since 1910 even before there was a hospital in Princeton. They have been giving bursaries to the graduating class of our High School for many years. Previous to Covid they gave more but the past two years have been half as much due to the fact that they have been closed for over a year. They have just reopened with a fully new executive. They do give preference to students going into medical fields.

Christina Lake Health-Care Auxiliary

Despite Covid 19, Christina Lake held a plant and Garden Art sale to raise funds for the Boundary Hospital and a scholarship for a GFSS Student pursuing a career in healthcare.

Maple Ridge—Auxiliary to Ridge Meadows

~Due to closure of their Thrift Store and Gift Shop during this Covid year, they are unable to give bursary funding this year.
~However, in the past the amount of the bursary has varied, but in the past several years six students, one from each of the high schools in the area, who were going into the medical field have received assistance. They hope very much to be able to be in a financial position next year to get back into giving bursaries for their local School District #42.

Delta Hospital Auxiliary

~ In 1987 Delta began offering two bursaries to Delta students entering a medical field.
~ The program has grown as the Delta Auxiliary now supports two staff and six students with costs of courses they are taking in the medical field. They may be High School graduates, or in a College or University program.
~ There is also a student Barb McCurdy In Memorial Bursary. Barb was a very dedicated volunteer and president of the Delta auxiliary.

Hope – Auxiliary to Fraser Canyon Hospital and Fraser Hope Lodge

~ They are very pleased to offer our local students a helping hand on their post-secondary journey. The Auxiliary gives a Student Bursary annually to an eligible graduating Hope or Boston Bar student planning to pursue their post-secondary school education in the field of healthcare.
~ Youth and students who volunteer in the Lodge, visiting & helping residents, receive credits towards their schooling.
~ Our 2019 recipient of the Student Bursary was Miranda Fisher, who graduated from Hope Secondary School. Miranda will be studying Kinesiology at Trinity Western University in Langley. Congratulations Miranda.

Merritt—Nicola Valley Health Care Auxiliary

~ They provide three bursaries each year to students graduating from Merritt Secondary School. Preference is given to students who are entering the medical field or have volunteered with their organization.

Trail Hospital Auxiliary Society

~ Paulina is working towards a career in chemical engineering with a minor in biomedical engineering. Allison is working towards a Bachelor of Science with a Kinesiology major which will lead to a career in paediatrics.~ This auxiliary provides four scholarships or bursaries to students.
~ JL Crowe Secondary School and the Trail Auxiliary cooperate to run a Youth Program for students who want a career in health care. They have 2 hours per week commitment to the all different floors (for Experience) they also do 10 courses through eLearning at Provincial Health.

Ladysmith Healthcare Auxiliary

~ Youth Volunteer Awards Students volunteer at their local extended care facility over a period of two years and they give two large awards to those going into a health care program. They have adapted the criteria this year – during COVID – so students can still qualify by volunteering “at a distance”; challenging but doable (and creative) with digital technology. It has been rewarding for seniors and volunteers!
~ Junior Members Students volunteer at their Thrift store. The same amount of money is given as the Youth Volunteer awards, but they get four smaller awards rather than two large ones. The students must have consistent service to the LHA and must be registered at a post secondary institution.

Chemainus Health Care Auxiliary

~ The Chemainus Health Care Auxiliary gives 3 bursaries a year (possibly 4 if the qualifications are equally the same) to students graduating from Chemainus Secondary School furthering their education in the medical field.

Revelstoke Hospital Auxiliary Society

~ Revelstoke auxiliary awards two student bursaries each year.
Squamish General Hospital Auxiliary Society
~ A bursary is awarded to a graduating student from the local Howe Sound Secondary School student who is planning to pursue a career in the health sciences field. This year the bursary was presented to Jocelyn Harry.

Richmond Hospital/Healthcare Auxiliary

~ This auxiliary funds annual Student Bursaries for students enrolled in healthcare
programs so they can continue their education.

South Cowichan—Auxiliary to the Cowichan Hospital

~ South Cowichan Auxiliary gives a bursary to a graduating student from Frances Kelsey Senior Secondary School who intends to pursue a career in the health sciences field.

Powell River Health-Care Auxiliary

~ The Powell River Health-Care Auxiliary offers scholarships to participants of the Youth Volunteer Program who meet the requirements.

Dawson Creek Hospital Auxiliary

~High school graduate scholarships towards a healthcare career (2)
~ High school graduate scholarships for some medical field (2)

Salmon Arm—Shuswap Lake Health Care Auxiliary

~ They generally award one scholarship to a graduating youth furthering their education in the health-care related field and two scholarships towards post-secondary education.

Mission Health Care Auxiliary

~ Donates three Bursaries to our Junior Volunteers, two to junior volunteers going into the Medical Field and one to a junior volunteer not going into a medical field. Candidates must have worked 100 hours within two years.

Comox—Auxiliary to Comox Valley Healthcare

~ We offer three bursaries annually to Youth Volunteers who are continuing their education after high school in the medical field (nursing, pharmacy, medicine etc). This year we had only one applicant.

Penticton—Auxiliary to Penticton Regional Hospital

~They do two Bursaries to graduating students from Penticton High School and Princess Margaret High School.
~They require that the student be going into studies in the Medical field. Preference will be given to a student that is part of their Youth Program at the hospital, but it isn’t a requirement to receive the bursary.

Clearwater—Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital Auxiliary

~ Starting in 1973, they choose a graduating Clearwater Secondary School student pursuing a career in any health-care field.
~ Several of our recipients have returned to Clearwater to practice, including Bernie Easson (Haring),1979. She began as an RN, and when she retired in 2020 she had spent several years as Director of Clinical Operations, Community & Primary Care for Thompson & South Cariboo.
