Shuswap Lake Health Care Auxiliary Society

President/Edie Swanson

Our Auxiliary was very pleased to receive a certificate from BCAHA acknowledging 110 years of service.  We were also very proud to receive a platinum fish from the Shuswap Hospital Foundation recognizing $42,000 in donations towards our hospital and Bastion Place.

Due to COVID, we were locked out of our hospital as volunteers March 13, 2020.   Our Gift Shop was allowed to reopen people were not allowed in our shop and are handed the requested items. Our only fundraiser in 2020 was gift wrapping December 17-24 at Piccadilly Mall and proved to be highly successful for our Auxiliary, shoppers handed their unwrapped gifts to an intake person who passed them on to wrappers. As the youth volunteers’ program was canceled in 2020, our Auxiliary did not award our annual scholarships. The only purchase we made for our hospital was an i-Pad for patients to connect with their family. Our AGM was held May 17 via Zoom.  Some minor changes were made to our By-Laws and approved by our members.  We held several other meetings via Zoom out of the hospital Board Room, otherwise, I kept the members updated via a newsletter.

Our Volunteer Coordinator resigned in March 2020 and was only replaced in June 2021, she will be responsible for reinstating Greeters in our hospital and the youth program in Bastion Place, members assisting the Ambassador will be known as “Runners”, not “Greeters.”  So far, there has been little interest in returning as volunteers.

We generally have a small windup in June which was not permitted because of Covid so we met June 21 at a park.
